SEATTLE INTENSIVES:  These are 4 hour Intensives with a 30 minute break in the middle. The cost is $60/per wksp.

SAT. -- FEB 6th. 2:00 - 6:30 ADV.INTERMEDIATE -- SOLOS
This class is geared for the Adv. student and the Adv/Intermediate student. We will be studying transcribed solos of Master drummers from Cuba. I have written out solos from artists including Mongo Santamaria, Regino Jimenez, Eugenio Arango, Ramon Marquez, Daniel Alphonso and others. Horn players ALWAYS study the Masters by looking at their solos. This is what we will be doing as well. How do they organize their solos? What are the riffs that they use? What is
their relationship to Clave as they solo? These are questions that we can understand by studying their solos.

DO NOT LET THE NOTATION SCARE YOU!

My notation system is easy to learn, and this is the perfect opportunity to learn Western notation. Many of my students did not read at all, and by the second intensive they were able to read through the chart. I will also have CD's available with the solo and riffs in audio form to study at home.

This intensive will continue to study the Guiro (6/8) solo by Eugenio Arango and a Bembe solo by Master  Regino Jimenez (R.I.P.) We will also be learning songs that go with the Guiro and the Bembe. Bring a drum and a tape recorder. Please contact me if you would like to attend.

SUN. -- FEB. 7th. 1:00 - 5:30 BEGINNING INTERMEDIATE  -- ENSEMBLE DRUMMING AND SINGING
We will be studying Afro-Cuban rhythms and songs for the Conga Drum Ensemble. This Sunday we will continue with Guaguanco, Iyesa and Bembe. I will have everything written out for you in box notation and/or Western notation. We will also learn songs that go with the rhythms. This class will be geared to needs of the students attending, so if there is a rhythm that you would love to learn, pls let me know. Bring a drum and tape recorder.
