Marketplace
The Marketplace is back again for Born to Drum 2009! Last year was so successful that several people are returning, and we will have new vendors and services as well. We are still looking to add artist vendors for our Marketplace. Of particular interest are percussion instruments, drum bags, soaps, herbal teas, clothes, jewelry, etc We welcome other visual arts as well as services such as massage and body work. This is a women-only event and vendors must be female.
The spaces are approximately 10' by 10' and outside, so we recommend a canopy or umbrella. The Marketplace will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 3rd through 5th. The fee is $50/day if you are not registered for the camp, $25/day if you are registered. Vendors can come on one, two or three days. If you are interested, please communicate with C. J. at artcj@aol.com. She is coordinating the Marketplace and can answer your questions and send you the forms you will need to apply. We would like registrations to come in as soon as possible because we have begun to assign the spaces. Deadline is June 30th, 2009.
New Programs and Activities
If you've checked the daily schedule you know that the lineup of classes is very exciting. We’ve also added some new programs and activities:
- Drum jam at the fire pit! Thursday night we're moving it outside and (fire conditions willing) drumming by the bonfire!
- Open Mic. Friday night you will have an opportunity to perform at the Open Mic. There wil be sign ups for approximately 12 Slots of 10 minutes each. You will be able to sign up during the registration period. If there are more talents offered than the time allows there will be a lottery drawing to decide who will perform.
- Transformational Ritual Healing Circle with Vicki Noble -- Friday night after the Open Mic Vicki will lead us in a hands-on ritual healing circle that combines drumming, chanting, and hands-on healing.
- Dance with DJ music -- Friday night after the Open Mic.
- Special Activities Time -- On Friday and Saturday afternoons. You can swim at Turtle Pond, go on a guided hike, dance with Ava, check out Bomba with Las Bomberas de La Bahia, spend time in the Spirit Lodge, jam with friends, take a nap, or..... Just have FREE time.
- Spirit Lodge -- Attending Drum Camp is a way of honoring your spirit, of getting in touch with your sacred wisdom, and helping yourself in the process of self awareness and empowerment. The teachings of the Spirit Lodge are shared to empower us all and from the point of view of nature based spiritual and healing traditions and practices. We honor everyone’s culture and beliefs here, and all are welcome to join together, in this sacred space to share, write, learn, or meditate.
You can also spend quality quiet time in the Spirit Lodge, which will be located in the beautiful Garden Room of the camp. Of the two lovely rooms, one will be dedicated primarily to an ancestral altar and a meditation space. All campers are invited to bring pictures of loved ones who have made their journey to the spirit world, and who you would like to honor or remember in the ancestral shrine space.
Some of the themes of this year’s Spirit Lodge will include the Yoruba Deity Oya, the Buffalo, the Wind, Breath, New Beginnings, the number Nine etc.
Discussions and/or workshops on various topics will be offered such as: different spiritual traditions, healing practices, the history of women’s drumming, and, a special empowering women through writing class entitled, “Writing As Ritual,” will be available, (see attached description).
If you are interested in leading a workshop, discussion or presentation at the Spirit Lodge please sign up at registration.
